Sustainability Research with Impact
Youth/Researcher Partnerships with Impact
Our aim is to empower youth across the University of the Sunshine Coast’s region to set research priorities and shape research projects aligned to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).
Youth researchers worked on research priorities aimed to bring about sustainable economic growth (SDG8), health and wellbeing (SDG3), and climate action (SDG13).
The Youth Engaged in Sustainability (YES) Research program draws from diverse perspectives in entrepreneurship, communication, psychology, marketing, nutrition and citizen science to address the SDG priorities.
The program provided immediate benefits and outcomes for the youth research leaders and participants involved, as well as the broader community. In the longer-term the career development, project findings, and contributions of the youth involved is expected to benefit Queensland’s future economy.
Guided by the UN Sustainable Development Goals our projects fall into three priority categories:
SDG Priority Areas
The YES research program included more than 40 academics, 30 youth research students and 3026 youth participants, on 12 cross-disciplinary projects. These projects developed the employability and research capacity of youth, while advancing the SDGs.
